Why is My Swimming Pool pH Level so Important?

Maintaining the pH level in the pool water balanced to ensure its proper and up-to-date water quality is an ordinary topic for discussion. Even though this important process is a simple one, yet many people are unfamiliar with this measurement scale.

Why is My Swimming Pool pH Level so Important?

PH influences almost all chemical reactions that occur in a pool. PH is the abbreviation for Potential of Hydrogen, which represents the hydrogen ion concentration present in the water. The more hydrogen in the water, the more acidic it is, and therefore the higher its pH.

How does the pH scale work?

The pH measurement scale ranges from 0 to 14. However, when we consider measuring the pH of pool water, there are specific analysis kits that determine the pH within the normal range, which is 6.5 to 8.5. Such parameter is enough to show if acid-base equilibrium changed, as neutral pH sits around 7.

For those who want to enjoy a stress-free swimming pool, the recommendation is to maintain the pH between 7.2 and 7.6. The lower the pH, the more acidic the water, which causes discomfort and may even irritate the eyes and mucous membranes.

Some chemicals work best at a particular pH. For example, clarifiers work best at basic pH (above 7), whereas products such as chlorine are more efficient in waters with acid pH (below 7).

Our Supreme Pool Service team monitors and balances the concentration of all chemicals to promote the highest pool water quality. Do not hesitate to contact us when it comes to your swimming pool maintenance and health.
